Robin Cunningham, MBA, is a retired corporate executive and entrepreneur, and a mental illness advocate. He serves on the board of trustees of NAMI New Jersey; New Jersey Governor’s Council on Mental Health Stigma; the governing board of Greater Trenton Behavioral Healthcare; and the advisory board of PeaceLove Studios. In his business career, Mr. Cunningham has held the positions of chairman, president, and vice president, among many others, in sales, marketing, finance, administration, and strategic planning. He has worked in the industries of industrial finance; commercial and investment banking; mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures; corporate turn-around management; ocean shipping, railcar manufacturing and leasing, railroad transportation, software development, and payroll services, among others. These accomplishments are all the more remarkable given that Mr. Cunningham has schizophrenia (diagnosed at age 13).
Hakon Heimer, MS, is a science editor and consultant on mental illness and neuroscience based in Providence, Rhode Island. He is the founder, project director, and executive editor of Schizophrenia Research Forum, an online knowledge environment for researchers, which is part of the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (previously NARSAD). This web-based knowledge environment provides news, discussion, databases, and other resources for scientists. He is also a program advisor on cognitive disorders to the Banbury Center at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, New York, and a member of the National Advisory Mental Health Council, which advises the National Institute of Mental Health. Mr. Heimer’s brother has schizophrenia.
