Help us spread the message
All donations to Cure Alliance through December 15, 2017, will support mental health services in Puerto Rico.
On September 20, the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico was hit by the most devastating hurricane in nearly 100 years, leaving 3.4 million American citizens without electricity, running water, or telecommunications, many weeks later. In the midst of this disaster, mental health has become one of the primary concerns on the island. Patients with psychiatric illnesses like depression, addiction, anxiety, and schizophrenia have limited access to services and medication, or money to afford either. Outcomes will be exacerbated by recent trauma and bereavement, while clinicians and social services struggle to keep up.
Proceeds will subsidize free counseling visits at the Mental Health Clinic of Albizu University, Puerto Rico’s leading school of psychology (non-profit), a clinic for families in underserved populations. In addition, a portion of the proceeds will be used to ensure that relief supplies previously donated in our home state of Rhode Island reach their destination. We believe that both of these are vital to long-term recovery in Puerto Rico.
A gala fundraiser supporting this effort will take place December 1 in Providence, RI at Fete Music Hall.
Tickets to the event are available online.
